Neurofibroma Causing Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

چکیده
For answer see page 154 A 45-year-old woman with a history of neurofibromatosis presented with pain and numbness in her left foot for the past 3 months. She noted that a mass had been present in the medial aspect of left ankle for several years, but only in the past months had it caused paresthesia over the plantar foot and tarsal tunnel. Physical examination confirmed a tender mass in the medial aspect of her left ankle, and magnetic resonance images (A-C) were obtained.

Plexiform Neurofibroma of the Posterior Tibial Nerve Misdiagnosed as Proximal Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome: A Case Report
Plexiform neurofibromas of the foot are rare, benign tumors of the peripheral nerves. Diagnosis can be challenging if they present with symptoms mimicking other peripheral nerve pathologies. Tarsal tunnel syndrome is an entrapment syndrome of the entire tibial nerve behind the medial malleolus and under the flexor retinaculum. The clinical presentation typically includes posteromedial pain, pos...
متن کاملExtensive Osteochondroma of Talus Presenting as Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome: Report of a case and Literature Review
Osteochondroma or exostosis is the most common benign bone tumor, and occurring frequently in the proximal humerus, tibia, and distal femur. It rarely affects talus. Osteochondroma of talus is a very rare etiology of tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS). We report a rare case of extensive osteochondroma of the talus in a 60 year old female presenting with multiple swellings around the ankle and sympt...
متن کاملThe tarsal tunnel syndrome in hypothyroidism.
Nine patients with myxoedema and carpal tunnel syndrome have been studied clinically and electrophysiologically to determine the presence or absence of the tarsal tunnel syndrome. Four patients had electrophysiological evidence of the tarsal tunnel syndrome, three of whom were mildly symptomatic. This would suggest that the tarsal tunnel syndrome is frequently encountered in myxoedema in associ...
متن کاملTarsal tunnel syndrome in a patient on long-term peritoneal dialysis: case report.
Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) is defined as the entrapment of the posterior tibial nerve in the tarsal tunnel of the ankle. The etiologies of tarsal tunnel syndrome are mainly the presence of a ganglion, osseous prominence with tarsal bone coalition, trauma, varicose veins, neurinoma, hypertrophy of the flexor retinaculum, or systemic disease (rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis). Howev...
متن کاملTarsal Tunnel Syndrome Due to Talocalcaneal Tarsal Coalition: A Case Report
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome (TTS) is an entrapment neuropathy of tibial nerve which is compressed in the tarsal tunnel, an anatomic structure formed between bones (medial wall of calcaneus, talus and distal tibia) and flexor retinaculum. The cases are usually idiopathic whereas occasionally TTS occurs secondary to space occupying lesions such as ganglia, tumors, bony protrusions [1-8]. Tarsal coalit...
